Cube Entertainment feels that Soyeon's spontaneous action of discussing her contract at (G)I-DLE's concert, without discussing it first, could endanger the company

Jeon Soyeon successfully surprised the public by hinting that she was reluctant to renew her contract with Cube Entertainment. The idol conveyed this when (G)I-DLE held a concert at KSPO DOME, Seoul on August 3.

At the concert, Soyeon performed her solo song "Is This Bad B****'s Number?" which was self-produced. The idol also sang a rap that read, "My contract ends in November. Who's gonna stop me?!"

Soyeon's words immediately surprised and confused many fans at the concert venue. Towards the end of the concert, the idol reassured her fans, saying, "We'll always be here, so don't worry."

Soyeon's hint that she seemed reluctant to renew her contract was immediately responded to by the agency. They stated, "All (G)I-DLE members will renew their contracts next year. Soyeon's claim about renewing her contract at the end of this year is just part of her performance."

Cube also protested Soyeon's lyrics. "We decided to speak to the media about this because we felt that Soyeon's spontaneous actions at the concert, without discussing it with us first, could harm the company," Cube added.

Despite Cube's clarification, fans are still speculating that Soyeon's words were not just for show. Fans believe that the idol must be hinting at something big. Many are currently worried that if the contract is not renewed, (G)I-DLE's activities, which are largely driven by Soyeon's songwriting and composition, may be in jeopardy.

Typically, a K-pop group's lifespan is around 7 years, coinciding with the end of their first contract period. Most groups have either disbanded or are focusing on individual activities at this time, adding to fans' concerns.

Meanwhile, netizens criticized Cube for their seemingly blaming attitude towards Soyeon. "If Jeon Soyeon leaves, won't Cube really lose money? Please be nice [sic!]," wrote one netizen. "Doesn't the company know the lyrics? [sic!]," added another. (wk/amal)
