British band Shakatak sent an official claim letter in mid-June to ADOR, their parent company HYBE and the Korea Music Copyright Association.

NewJeans' song "Bubble Gum" was accused of plagiarism by the band Shakatak. The British band asked for compensation from the ADOR agency and even demanded that Minji cs stop singing the song.

Shakatak management has requested the help of a law firm to submit their demands to the NewJeans agency. In their lawsuit, Shakatak stated that "Bubble Gum" plagiarized their song entitled "Easier Said Than Done."

According to Munhwa Ilbo media, Shakatak sent an official claim letter in mid-June to ADOR, their parent company HYBE, the Korea Music Copyright Association, and Sony Music Publishing Hong Kong Limited (Korean branch).

The Shakatak law firm explained, "We confirm that 'Bubble Gum' written by 250, Oscar Bell, Sophie Simmons, and Gigi, and recorded by NewJeans, has infringed the copyright of 'Easier Said Than Done'."

The Shakatak party's law firm further demanded, "Please confirm and comply with the terms, including termination of use, profit reporting, change of rights holder, written guarantee, and damages within 7 days (after the demand is sent)."

Shakatak explained that the reason for the plagiarism accusation was because the two songs had similar melodic hooks, instrumentation and rhythmic forms. Both songs are also played at nearly the same tempo, very similar harmony choices, and similar harmonic rhythms.

This plagiarism accusation was responded to by ADOR. They acknowledged that they had received the demand on June 17 and responded via their legal team on June 21. However, ADOR firmly denied the plagiarism accusations.

"We do not use Shakatak compositions without permission and ask for an official analysis report. Even though Shakatak promised to provide a report, we have not received it. The plaintiff must submit a report proving plagiarism, and Shakatak needs to respond," stressed ADOR.

Meanwhile, Munhwa Ilbo media tried to contact the law firm representing Shakatak to ask for their response to ADOR's statement. However, the media has not received a reply. Stay tuned for the latest information here. (wk/charity)
