BTS' 'Boy With Luv' Becomes the First Korean Song to Reach 1 Billion Streams on Spotify

'Boy With Luv' is the third song by BTS to join Spotify's Billions Club after 'Dynamite' and 'Butter' which made history as the first song by a Korean artist to reach 1 billion streams.


BTS has again succeeded in making history and making their fans proud. On February 10 local time, Spotify officially announced that BTS' 2019 hit "Boy With Luv" featuring Halsey has joined the Billions Club after surpassing 1 billion streams on the platform.'

This then makes "Boy With Luv" the first Korean-language song in history to reach the milestone. "Boy With Luv" is also the third song by BTS to join Spotify's Billions Club after "Dynamite", which made history in 2021 as the first song by a Korean artist to reach 1 billion streams, and "Butter" which earned the award last year.

"Boy With Luv" is the lead single for BTS's sixth mini album "Map of the Soul: Persona" and was released on April 12, 2019 by Big Hit Entertainment. The song's music video was the most viewed music video online in 24 hours at the time, garnering over 74.6 million views in its first day of release and being certified Platinum by the RIAA in June.

In addition, "Boy with Luv" also holds the record for the song with the most wins on music shows after the 2000s in South Korea with 21 wins, until the record was broken by "Dynamite". On July 3, 2019, the Japanese version of the song was released as a double A-side single alongside the original Japanese song "Lights" through Universal Music Japan.

Upon its release, "Boy With Luv" debuted at No. 1 on the real-time charts of six major music sites including Soribada, Genie, Naver, Bugs, Mnet, and Flo on April 12. On April 13, it was reported that the song ranked No. 1 on the real time charts of all digital platforms including Melon, thus achieving an "all kill". "Boy with Luv" debuted and peaked at number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, becoming the group's highest-grossing Top 10 entry after "Fake Love". (wk/aiss)
