For the Poll to Determine Famous Film Actors 2020, 1700 People Over the Age of 13 were Surveyed Between November 5 and 29 From All Over Mainland South Korea.
Gallup Korea has announced the results of its annual poll of the most famous film stars of the year. Since 2007, Gallup Korea has held annual polls in which people in South Korea vote for the most famous character of the year.
For the 2020 poll, 1700 people over the age of 13 were surveyed between November 5 and 29 from across mainland South Korea. Poll results for variety stars / comedians and sports athletes have been released.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film industry in South Korea and around the world is experiencing serious setbacks, with limited theater involvement, delayed release dates and difficulty filming on location.
According to the Korean Film Commission, there were five films in 2019 that surpassed 10 million moviegoers at the domestic box office and around 50 films surpassed 1 million moviegoers.
By 2020, that figure has dropped to 17 films to surpass 1 million moviegoers and the highest viewership recorded for the whole year was "The Man Standing Next" at 4.75 million moviegoers. On the other hand, there has been a marked increase in the use of streaming services.
For two consecutive years, Song Kang Ho was voted the most famous film actor of the year with a score of 27.8 percent. Even though his box office film "Parasite" was released in 2019, it made headlines around the world when it won four Oscars at the Academy Awards, which were held in February 2020.
Since he didn't release any new films in 2020, Song Kang Ho topped the polls as well as a testament to his huge presence in the Korean film world. In second place was Lee Byung Hun who starred in "The Man Standing Next" which was previously touted as the film with the highest number of views in 2020.
Lee Byung Hun has also consistently starred in high-profile films during his career and was ranked first in previous Gallup polls. In third place is Ma Dong Seok, a charismatic actor who is known to often shoot films of various genres.
Ma Dong Seok appeared in the disaster film "Ashfall" in late 2019, but also made headlines last year when he was cast in the Marvel film "The Eternals" alongside Hollywood stars like Angelina Jolie. The film has now been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The top 10 of the ranking of famous film actors continues to be dominated by male actors with Kim Hye Soo (No. 9) and Lee Jung Eun (No. 10) being the only actresses to make it into. Gallup Korea noted that the highest ranking that a female actor has polled was in 2007, when Jeon Do Yeon took first place.

- Ha Jung Woo earned 4 percent
- Lee Jung Jae earned 3.6 percent
- Kim Hye Soo won 3.5 percent
- Lee Jung Eun earned 3.4 percent
