Girls On Top Members Reveal 'Strange' Vocal Practice Methods at SM Entertainment

At first, BoA was a little confused by her practice until Tae Yeon told her to tighten her throat a little. After she mastered this practice, BoA amazed Wendy and Tae Yeon.

SM Entertainment is known for its outstanding vocals. Red Velvet's Wendy and Girls' Generation's Tae Yeon give us a glimpse of the agency's vocal training in the behind-the-scenes video of Girls On Top's "Step Back" dance practice GOT the Beat.

Wendy and Tae Yeon met through GOT the beat. GOT the beat is a special performance unit girl group consisting of Girls' Generation's BoA, Tae Yeon and Hyoyeon, Red Velvet's Wendy and Seulgi, and Aespa's Winter and Karina.

In the behind-the-scenes video of the "Step Back" dance practice video, Wendy shows BoA one of the vocal exercises she uses. The exercise is to say "hey you" in a whining voice.

At first, BoA was a little confused by her practice until Tae Yeon told her to tighten her throat a little. After she mastered the practice, BoA amazed Wendy and Tae Yeon.

Next, the members of GOT the beat moved to a new vocal practice. This time, they said "the egg is here." They still use a nasal voice for this exercise, but they add a bit more vocal power behind it.

After doing this vocal practice for a while, Wendy, Tae Yeon, and BoA decided that Winter might be great at it. They were right and the maknae of GOT the beat managed to do the practice on the first try.

When they were done with their mini vocal practice session, Tae Yeon said the practice was a "must" for SM Entertainment vocalists. Although they don't explain why they are doing the vocal exercises in the video, the purpose of the exercises is likely to promote proper closure of the vocal cords and to learn how to sing without over-breathing or elevating the larynx.
