On Friday (21/1), Netflix officially confirmed the production of 'Squid Game' season 2.
Netflix has officially given the green light for the second season of "Squid Game". Lee Jung Jae as the main character will also participate in the latest season of this brutal drama.
On Friday (21/1), various American media reported that the production of "Squid Game" was underway. This was revealed by Ted Sarandos, Netflix's co-chief executive officer in a discussion about Netflix's fourth-quarter earnings.
Ted Sarandos says, "The 'Squid Game' universe has just begun." When asked if the drama will have a second season, he replied, "Of course."
Previously, the director and scriptwriter of "Squid Game" Hwang Dong Hyuk had confirmed that he would be producing the second season of the drama. The director also stated that Lee Jung Jae will reprise his role as Seong Gi Hun, the main character of "Squid Game".
The director said, "There was so much pressure, demand and love for season two. So I almost feel that you guys left us no choice!"
Meanwhile, "Squid Game" follows the story of 456 contestants who compete in a deadly game hosted by a mysterious organization. They are willing to risk their lives to win the prize money of 45.6 billion won (approximately Rp. 547.9 billion).
Thanks to a fairly new plot, this drama managed to become Netflix's biggest TV show, racking up 1.65 billion streaming hours in just 28 days after its release. In addition, "Squid Game" also made another history at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards, becoming the first non-English series and Korean series to score a nomination. (wk/eval)
