It's Rarely Acting Romantically, Gong Yoo Brings Noble Goals Through 'The Silent Sea'

Having rarely appeared in romantic dramas or films, Gong Yoo admitted that he never really avoided it. Apparently the actor has an important goal through works like 'The Silent Sea'.

Gong Yoo apparently has his own message in each of his works, including "The Silent Sea" starring with Bae Doona. Their acting also successfully stole the attention of viewers. As of Friday (31/12), this drama was ranked first on television shows on Netflix Indonesia.

Playing Han Yun Jae, the leader of a secret mission to the moon, Gong Yoo successfully captivated viewers with his performance. "The Silent Sea" shows the earth in the year 2075 which is arid and experiencing a natural resource crisis until Han Yun Jae cs is sent to collect mysterious samples at the Balhae space base on the moon.

In recent years, Gong Yoo has rarely starred in romantic dramas. For no particular reason, it seems that the actor has deliberately chosen dramas that are evocative of people's views regarding a social or natural problem. Incidentally in "The Silent Sea", Gong Yoo has a noble goal to tell viewers about the importance of water conservation.

"It's not that I'm deliberately avoiding romance. That's how I became. Rather than looking at role size in terms of casting offers, I'm naturally attracted to projects where we can plan everything together. I don't know if I'm greedy for this type of role, but I thought I wanted to communicate. with people," said Gong Yoo.

According to Gong Yoo, there are things that cannot be said or simply followed in terms of making people aware of the problems that exist on earth. So that through works, someone can convey their message about something. So, Gong Yoo didn't necessarily withdraw from the romance genre on purpose.

"That's why I act according to my emotions and instincts. I want to say something to people, but instead of saying something like, 'I'm this kind of person. I want to be this kind of person,' I'm an actor, so I joined a project that shares certain messages to the audience. I'm not avoiding or interested in certain genres or anything like that," explained Gong Yoo.

As a result, Gong Yoo feels happy if there are viewers who pick up on his message. Like in 'Silent Sea' where clean water was scarce, now Gong Yoo is starting to use it wisely.

"When I take a shower in winter, I turn on the water for a while before going in, but after this drama I started turning off the tap more often. I've heard fans say the same thing to me. I'm grateful to people who share stories with me," Gong Yoo concluded. (wk/inta)
