The annual People's Choice Awards 2021 will take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica in California. Through this event, "Squid Game" won the main award for the category "The Bingeworthy Show of 2021".

One article from Variety said that the psychological thriller series qualifies for a Primetime Emmy race because it was released under Netflix, an American streaming company.

"However, one had to choose and could not enter both because both the Los Angeles-based TV Academy and the New York-based International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences have rules that prevent double-voting of Emmys," Variety said.
