K-Pop Album Sales 2020: Big Hit Number 1, SM and JYP Behind

Data on K-Pop physical album sales in the first half of 2020 was released. Big Hit looks to lead from sales figures for BTS and TXT. SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment followed behind them.


According to Gaon Album Chart monthly sales data, until June 2020 Big Hit Entertainment has managed to sell a total of 4,541,575 albums for their two artists, TXT and BTS. These sales data are albums released in 2020.

BTS controls 94% of the album sales. BTS's fourth studio album has sold 4,265,617 throughout 2020. While TXT's second mini album contributed 6% to a total of 275,958 pieces of album.

SM Entertainment

In second place is SM Entertainment, which sold 3.8 million albums to a series of artists who made their comeback and debut solo in 2020. Among them, EXO's Baekhyun who had recently been successful with Delight, who broke 1 million sales.

A series of NCT albums (including WayV) also contributed significant numbers. Next is Suho's solo debut album, Taeyeon's second studio album, Super Junior's album including K.R.Y, and Changmin's TVXQ solo debut album. SM Entertainment sold 3,869,545 albums this year, as reported by AllKPop on Friday (07/10/2020).

JYP Entertainment

JYP Entertainment sold a total of 1,466,372 albums in 2020. The biggest sales were contributed by TWICE with a total of 563,580 albums for the release of their 9th studio album. Followed by the 11th mini album GOT7 with a total of 444,563 pieces. The third best-selling JYP artists are Stray Kids, followed by ITZY, and DAY6.

Pledis Entertainment

Pledis Entertainment's sales this year are slightly different from JYP. With two active artists at the moment, Pledis Entertainment has sold 1,438,037 albums. 86% of them are SEVENTEEN albums with a total of 1,235,853 albums and another 14% are NU'EST albums with a total of 202,184 albums.

YG Entertainment

Then in fifth place is YG Entertainment. Only sold 211,059 albums this year, WINNER is the artist who contributed the most physical album sales from YG. WINNER's third studio album sold 113,346 copies, then iKON followed by 55,254, and Sechkies at 42,459. (ron / nu2)
