Music Critics Call the Seungri Scandal Very Negative Impact on the Image and Future of Other YG Entertainment Artists. See Their Next Opinions.

YG Entertainment is facing a problem. The second largest agency image in South Korea has been destroyed by drug and prostitution scandals involving Seungri. The impact is likely to hurt other YG artists such as Black Pink, Winner (II) and iKON.

As a result of the Seungri scandal, YG suffered a loss of up to 220 billion Won (around Rp. 2.5 trillion). The drama also dragged Yang Hyun Suk, the founder of the agency as well as the largest shareholder. He was investigated by South Korea's National Tax Service for alleged tax evasion. His policy not to interfere in personal matters, such as business, his artists also drew criticism.

The scandal originated from a persecution case at the Burning Sun, the nightclub mentioned by Seungri. YG Entertainment is also accused of being involved in drug trafficking and prostitution scandals in the club tonight. But staff shut up and senior executives chose to comment carefully.

Last Friday, YG chief executive Yang Min Suk spoke for the first time since the scandal broke. Yang Hyun Suk's sister said that he handled the case "very seriously" and promised to cooperate with the investigation. But he refused to comment on the allegations against YG and his brother.

The Korea Times asked some YG insiders about the internal situation, but no one wanted to talk. "I don't know what really happened, even if I knew, I couldn't express anything," said a YG official.

Industry insiders are also unsure about the situation inside YG. "What happened there was out of my reach," said a music critic. He said industry people like him were "very concerned about what happened" at the agency, because the scandal could have a negative impact on the entire K-Pop industry.

Other critics say the damage to YG is very "deep and wide" and will require "a long time and a lot of effort" for agencies to restore tarnished images. "This is not just a company problem," said the critic. "The negative effects can affect other innocent YG artists and really damage the agency's future. At least for now, the comeback plans of other YG artists, including the Big Bang, are still bleak."

Seungri himself announced his departure from Big Bang and retired from the entertainment industry on March 11 to take responsibility for the scandal. The next day YG terminated his contract with Seungri, the hardest sentence he could take.

But Seungri's actions have made many K-Pop lovers, including Big Bang fans disappointed. They feel betrayed by the 1990-born singer.

"I was very disappointed with him and whoever was involved," commented one fan. "I no longer have the trust or love for Seungri and he deserves the punishment that will be given to him," added another fan.

"As a fan for 10 years, I feel embarrassed to say that I once idolized him," said the fan. "I know something like this will happen one day. It's actually very surprising that YG is still doing business here," said another.

Many fans also threatened to boycott other YG artists. While some claimed to have thrown or burned albums and products released by YG.
