Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook competed early on July 27, taking silver in the 3-meter synchronized spring competition.

It's official: Team USA is on the medal board!

Team USA women's synchronized medley Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook won silver Saturday morning in Paris, with the medal count beginning on July 27. The women finished second in the 3-meter synchronized springboard event. This is the United States' first medal for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

China won the gold medal, and the U.K. fell behind Team USA in third place. Bacon, 27, made his Olympic debut in Paris, while Cook, 29, competed in Rio in 2016. He was 15 when he won silver at the 2019 World Championships.

According to Team USA, the Americans won the only medal in spring synchronized 3 meters at the 2012 Olympics. That, too, was silver.

Bacon will have another chance to win the Games, as she will compete in the women's 3 meters on August 7. Back in June, Bacon celebrated making the Olympic team, writing on Instagram at the time, "I can finally say I'm an OLYMPIAN!!" In his Instagram post at the time, Cook celebrated the same, writing, "we're going to Paris, yall."

The first full day of competition in Paris will see the Americans compete in events including swimming, gymnastics and tennis.

Team USA divers won't compete again until July 31, with Jessica Parratto and Delaney Schnell representing Team USA in the women's 10-meter synchronized platform. The men's divers will compete on August 2, with Tyler Downs and Greg Duncan competing in the three-meter spring final. /people.com
