ADOR, NewJeans' agency released an official statement regarding the controversy over merchandise gifts from the Korea Tourism Organization for promotional purposes.
The Korean Tourism Organization started a controversy involving the name NewJeans when it held a 'Day Trip in Korea' campaign.
After releasing a promotional video on Tuesday (16/07) to attract the attention of tourists to come to Korea, the Korea Tourism Organization held a competition with prizes.
The conditions are to provide comments regarding "Day Trips in Korea" on the official website of the Korea Tourism Organization and the winner will be announced on September 20, 2024.
In addition to Amazon shopping vouchers, 20 other winners will receive prizes in the form of bags of NewJeans "Supernatural" merch.
This sparked controversy because "Supernatural" was NewJeans' Japanese debut album.
Various other complaints also appeared on online community forum sites, discussing the controversy over giving away merchandise for the Japanese album NewJeans to promote South Korea.
Using Japanese products to promote Korea, the Korean Tourism Organization has drawn criticism from various parties.
According to Daum, the identity of Takashi Marukami, the Japanese artist who contributed to the song "Right Now" on NewJeans' "Supernatural" album, is also being debated.
Because of this controversy, NewJeans also received hate speech from the online community site platform Girls Planet 999 on the DC Inside forum.
