On Monday (08/07), the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency sent the person involved in the case to the Prosecutor's Office.
"The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Investigation Unit sent police officer A from the Incheon Police Agency and investigator B from the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office to the prosecutor's office on June 27 on charges of leaking official secrets and violating the Personal Information Protection Act," the Agency said Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police quoted from Newsis.
Apart from the two people from the police, four journalists were also sent to the prosecutor's office because of this case.
"Four journalists who received personal information directly or indirectly have also been sent to the prosecutor's office without detention on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Law," he continued.
Policeman A was handed over to the prosecutor's office and charged with submitting a progress report on the investigation into Lee Sun Kyun's drug case to journalists.
A is known to work in a department that is not related to drug crime investigations.
The report leaked by A is said to have been written by the Incheon Police Agency's narcotics crime investigation unit on October 18 last year.
The data contains personal details such as names, criminal records, identities, occupations of people involved in the Lee Sun Kyun drug case.
3 journalists are said to have received the report or confirmed its contents via A.
Meanwhile, B is an investigator from the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office.
He was accused of telling reporters from a local Gyeonggi regional daily newspaper by telephone that Lee Sun Kyun was being investigated by the police.
As a result, the media outlet reported exclusively on October 19 last year that an internal investigation into the drug allegations was underway.
Lee Sun Kyun reportedly underwent a police investigation in October last year over allegations of drug use.
