Jin BTS and BLACKPINK are among the Asian icons of the Hong Kong news site

A number of South Korean artists and public figures are included in the list of '11 Asian icons who shaped 2022' according to a Hong Kong daily news site. Jin BTS and BLACKPINK are one of those on the list.

A number of South Korean artists are included in the list of "11 Asian icons who shaped 2022" released by the Hong Kong daily news site, South China Morning Post (SCMP). Jin BTS and BLACKPINK topped the list of top Korean artists on the list.

BTS' Jin is in fourth place on the list, ranking the highest among Korean stars. "Can't help but admire 30-year-old Jin's bravery and responsibility, especially considering the group's level of international fame," read a statement from SCMP in the list release.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is ranked 5th after Jin BTS. In addition, "BORN PINK" was voted the 42nd best album of 2022 by the US Billboard. Not only that, BLACKPINK was also named Entertainer of the Year 2022 by American current affairs magazine, Time.

Jung Ho Yeon overtook BLACKPINK in 6th place. Previously, the "Squid Game" star became the first Korean to win the Best Actress Award at the SAG Awards. Jung Ho Yeon also "displayed national pride at the awards ceremony by wearing a custom-made daenggi" a traditional Korean hair accessory, said SCMP.

Actor Park Seo Joon appeared at position eight. Park Seo Joon is known to be scheduled to appear in Marvel Studios' new film "The Marvels", which will be released in July 2023.

Finally, the Korean national football team which reached the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was also selected as an “Asian icon”. Regarding the reasons for their selection, SCMP said that like the Japanese team, South Korea put in "the best performance which proves Asian footballers are not to be underestimated".

Apart from public figures from South Korea, a number of other names were also included in the list. Other names on the list include Chinese-born Hollywood star Michelle Yeoh, Vietnamese-born American actor Ke Huy Quan, China national skier Eileen Gu, film director Will Sharpe, Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu, and the Japanese national soccer team.
