A Streamer Reports Itaewon's Condition 1 Hour Before Tragedy

The tragedy that occurred in Itaewon on October 29, 2022 and claimed many lives, is still being investigated to find the starting point of the cause.


After 2 days after the incident, there was a video from a South Korean female streamer who apparently reported on the conditions at the scene 1 hour before the tragedy.

Delivered via JTBC, a streamer did a live broadcast while he was in Itaewon, being one of the visitors celebrating Halloween. However, 1 hour before the incident, the streamer realized he had lost his wallet which was allegedly dropped or stolen, and decided to report the matter to the police station.

Arriving at the nearest police station, he told about his problems and conditions in Itaewon, “I lost my wallet while walking. Is there no way to find it? There were too many people there and there could have been an accident. I went halfway up the alley in Itaewon and I was pushed out by the crowd," he said.

The police responded, “There are too many people there, it will be very difficult to find the wallet. I think you should wait for people to report it as missing in the morning,” to which the streamer agreed with the police's suggestion.

In addition, the female streamer also told the police that the area should be controlled because people were pushing each other and there might be injuries in the crowd, but the police only responded, "It will be difficult for us to go there at this time."
