Open Idol Course for Teenage Girls, SM's Shocking Decision Reaps Praise

Since the information was published, SM's new program has received enthusiastic responses from netizens. In particular, there was a sizable response that the age limit was regrettable.

SM Entertainment has made a very surprising decision for ABG born in 2006-2007 who want to become K-Pop idols. One of the biggest entertainment agencies in Korea announced a special program for them.

On April 12, SMTOWN posted a notice on their official SNS to recruit participants for the after-school program provided by SM Universe (SMU).

It is an academy-like program or course hosted by the "2020 Pre-SM Universe" where SMU will provide eight weeks of basic production, vocal, modeling, acting, and English education.

This program is expected to be an opportunity to experience the direction and curriculum of one's own previous high school education and to confirm one's possibilities of becoming a global artist.

In particular, the program is free of charge for social contributions. However, there is an age limit. Currently, only students born in 2006-2007, who are in grade 3 of junior high school to grade 1 of high school, are eligible.

Until April 20, SMU will receive application documents, and student auditions and parent interviews will only be held for those who pass the paperwork round.

If a person is selected as part of the shortlisted candidates on April 28, they can attend and receive training programs at the SM building five times a week from Monday to Friday for eight weeks from May 9 to July 1.

Since SM Entertainment has created many leading idol groups such as Girls' Generation, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, and AESPA, it is by far the best entertainment agency for those who want to become idols. It is hoped that many people will sign up for this after-school program.

Since the information was published, the program has received enthusiastic responses from netizens. In particular, there was a sizable response that the age limit was regrettable. However, most seem positive about SM Entertainment's new casting program.

"This is a good plan. They just need to choose people who have good skills and stand out to join the program," commented a netizen. "If it goes well, it will be profitable for those who dream of becoming idols and SM," added another netizen.

"A great opportunity for students who want to become idols," said another. "Considering the fact that this is a free educational course for 140 hours, it will be a complete class. I hope those who need it can take the class," wrote a netizen.

"It seems like a better way for companies and applicants than the traditional way of directly recruiting trainees. Agencies can select prospective trainees while applicants can experience training first before giving their decision instead of stepping into the training system with uncertain skills," concluded another .
