aespa is one of the most popular girl groups today because almost every topic about the group made by SM Entertainment is in the top trend in Korean online communities.
According to many netizens, with their unique futuristic concept and members' charm, AESPA has all it takes to become the leading girl group of the 4th generation of K-Pop.
But recently, a post on Pann Nate angered Korean netizens by using aespa as the "standard." This post lists five female idols from other girl groups who are less popular, but have similar appearances and positions to the AESPA members.
The creator of the post (OP) even referred to this lineup as the "nugu version" of aespa. What makes netizens angry the most is that 4 of the 5 female idols listed are all AESPA seniors, and they are not unknown idols at all.
According to the OP, Yeoreum Cosmic Girls has a sharp gaze and a tall figure that is very similar to Karina. She can also sing and rap well, which makes her a good leader like Karina. Yeoreum is even known to look like Girls' Generation's Tae Yeon.
Another Cosmic Girls member, Soobin, is also considered by the OP as a potential second Giselle thanks to their similar facial features. But Soobin is the main vocalist of the girl group Starship, while Giselle is the main rapper of aespa.
In Winter's case, OP pointed out VIVIZ's Eunha, a former member of G-FRIEND, as the idol he's most compatible with. Due to the many surprising similarities, from short hair, height, innocent beauty, to vocalist position, made the OP put them side by side to make comparisons.
Lastly, Shen Xiaoting Kep1er is said to have the same image as Ningning. Both are from China and their age difference is not that big.
In addition to the 4 members above, the OP also mentioned Bella ELRIS as a substitute for the AI Naevis character. This is because of rumors that SM designed Naevis based on Bella's image.
In response to the topic, most Korean netizens are angry that 4 out of 5 idols mentioned are popular enough to be listed as "nugu" idols. In fact, Eunha is well-loved by fans, and Shen Xiaoting is also a rising star who has a strong individual fandom.
"Kep1er and VIVIZ are not nugu, what is this person talking about?" netizen comments. "Bella is not very famous compared to the others, but Cosmic Girl, Kep1er and VIVIZ are definitely not nugu," added another netizen.
