BLACKPINK's new release is apparently not the news that many fans were expecting. Instead of a comeback, the four-member group will instead release new merchandise.

YG Entertainment recently announced the latest release of BLACKPINK (Black Pink), but it's not the news that many fans were expecting. Instead of a comeback, the four-member group will instead release new merchandise.

Along with the teaser video, BLACKPINK's new merchandise package "2022 Welcoming Collection" will be released on March 2, 2022. It's a DVD that showcases each member's individual charms.

While the material itself is liked by fans, BLINKs are more concerned with YG Entertainment's priorities when it comes to BLACKPINK. Many want new music, not merchandise.

"We need a comeback, it's been 500 days," wrote one fan. Posts related to BLACKPINK's "2022 Welcoming Collection" were inundated with fan protests, demanding new music from the group instead.

Shortly after, fans started trending #WeWantBLACKPINKMusic on Twitter. They also emphatically declared the boycott, "No music, no money."

Many fans have also noticed the similarities between this new merchandise release and BLACKPINK's older “Welcoming Collection,” suggesting that some of the images appear to have been recycled.

With such a long wait for new music, fans are wondering how beneficial this decision will be for BLACKPINK and whether boycotting merchandise is enough to get new music from Jennie and friends.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's last comeback was "The Album" which was released in October 2020. The group was rumored to be making a comeback earlier this year, but YG Entertainment has not released any statement. (wk/chus)
