Not long ago, Park Eun Seok's character in 'Penthouse' drew scathing criticism for being considered cultural appropriation. Already apologizing through his personal SNS, Park Eun Seok talked about his role in the drama.
Park Eun Seok some time ago drew criticism for his acting in "Penthouse" season three. His appearance as Alex Lee is called cultural appropriation by showing a character who acts like a black descendant.
Despite apologizing to viewers for his performance, Park Eun Seok didn't mind talking about it again with B.M KARD. Recently, he agreed to be interviewed and the video was uploaded to Hello Entertainment's YouTube account on Tuesday (22/6).
When asked about his character, Park Eun Seok revealed, "Creating a character is fun for an actor, especially if his appearance is different from the actor's."
Then the actor mentioned that makeup, dentures, and wigs were not difficult to put on, he found using props was fun. For him, the character in "Penthouse" is difficult because he has to hide his true personality.
"In this case, I have to play something contradictory and hide my personality. It's also a bit theatrical because you might do that kind of acting in the theater," said Park Eun Seok.
For him, the character of Alex Lee is most likely to appear on the theater stage so to bring it to life he has to improvise a little in his acting. Which must be admitted that it is not easy to do.
Furthermore, when his English accent was praised, Park Eun Seok just laughed and mentioned that he grew up on Long Island, United States. However, he was grateful for the compliment.
Previously, Park Eun Seok had apologized and explained the reason why he was willing to play Alex Lee who was described as such. Whereas his experience as a minority should have made him more empathetic to the oppression of the black race in the past. Park Eun Seok said that he did it because he wanted to show his admiration for the black nation. (wk/inta)
