The Golden Globes 2021 was finally held on Sunday (28/2) at local time or Monday (1/3) morning Indonesia time. This prestigious award event is being held virtually because the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing.

The film "Minari" won the Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language award. The film, starring Yoon Yeo Jung cs, is registered from the United States, but was nominated in the Foreign Language category because most of the dialogue is in Korean.

"Minari" managed to beat a number of other popular foreign language films such as "Another Round" (Danish), "La Llorona" (Guatemala / France), "The Life Ahead" (Italy), to "Two of Us" (France / United States ).

The film "Minari" was directed by Lee Isaac Chung and stars Steven Yeun, Han Ye Ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh Jung, and Will Patton. This film is based on the director's experience in real life. "Minari" tells the story of a South Korean immigrant family trying to live a new life in rural America during the 1980s.

Before being announced as the winner, there was controversy over the decision to place "Minari" in the Foreign Language category instead of the Drama category. Because this film was produced and financed by an American company and director and most of the cast and crew, except Han Ye Ri and Youn Yuh Jung, all of them were American.

Apart from the Golden Globes 2021, "Minari" was also nominated in the Critics Choice Association for the categories Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Young Actor / Actress, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Foreign Language Film up to the Best Score.

"Minari" was also nominated for three nominations at the 27th Screen Actor Guild (SAG) awards. Since "Minari" was nominated in 10 categories for the Critics Choice Award, critics have seen this as having a positive impact on their candidacy for the Academy Awards. (wk / charity)
