Jo Byeong Gyu, the star of OCN drama "The Uncanny Counter", was recently swept up in false rumors that he was bullying his fellow New Zealand classmates. The rumors were proven false.
HB Entertainment has previously made a brief statement that the post is untrue. The agency again released a statement after conducting an investigation into the OP (netizen) who spread the rumors.
HB Entertainment decided to pardon the OP after proving Jo Byeong Gyu's innocence. But the agency promised that for the following cases, stricter action would be taken.
"Hello. This is HB Entertainment. We will be giving our official statement regarding malicious comments and slander aimed at our company actor Jo Byeong Gyu."
"We have contacted the OP who made the fake post, after conducting a legal investigation and filing a lawsuit this morning. The OP admitted to writing the post, and regrets their wrongdoing and crimes."
"As a company, we have and will take strong legal action against such crimes against our actors. The OP has repeatedly said they were wrong and we also got an agreement from them that they would not do the same thing again."
"But if a similar problem arises, we will take firm action and do our best to protect the rights of our artists. In addition, we want to remind everyone that if our other artists face the same situation, we will also take firm action."
Previously, Jo Byeong Gyu was accused of bullying his classmates while studying in New Zealand. The JTBC drama star "SKY Castle" was also said to have had a bad attitude and verbally abused him.
Jo Byeong Gyu denied the bullying rumors and promised legal action against the person who started the rumors. HB Entertainment has also stated that all the rumors are false, and promised strong legal action to protect Jo Byeong Gyu. (wk / chus)
