The Melon Music Awards 2020 (MMA 2020) has officially kicked off its week of events known as “MMA WEEK”. The award event with this new format will be held for one week from December 2 to December 5. In its premiere, Melon has announced the winners for these 3 nominations.


MMA Week started yesterday, Wednesday (2/12) with its first online broadcast. The broadcast includes the announcement of winners for 3 categories namely "Best R&B / Soul", "Best Ballad" and "Best Rap / Hip Hop". The melons announced the winner of the category through their official Twitter account.


Soloist Baek Yerin successfully won in the "Best R&B / Soul" category and the duo Davichi won in the "Best Ballad" category. Meanwhile, the hip hop group DAMOIM, fronted by rappers YUMDDA, The Quiett, Simon D, Paloalto and Deepflow, won in the "Best Rap / Hip Hop" category.

Previously, on November 21, Melon also announced 10 names that had won to compete in the Top 10 category this year. Top 10 winners will be determined 80 percent based on the number of downloads and streams of Melon and 20 percent based on voting results. You can see the list of winners here.


"MMA WEEK" itself the main event of this event itself lasts for 4 days with the peak night on 5 December. The first day of “MMA WEEK” was enlivened by various cool virtual performances such as DAY6 (Even Of Day) and DAMOIM.


Leveraging Melon's inherent online power, "MMA WEEK" will connect music, artists and fans on a more intimate level, showcasing a variety of content, from videos and special playlists to new issues of digital magazine Melon, which tell the stories of the artists on display.


Additionally, it was announced that BTS (Bangtan Boys) will be joining the awards ceremony again this year. At the 2019 Melon Music Awards, the group put on an epic performance that took three months to prepare. Not only that, they also swept all four Daesangs (Grand Prizes) with a total of eight awards.
