On Thursday (04/04) at 19:17 local time, a fire broke out around Ilsung Resort in Goseong District and spread to Sokcho city center.

Disaster warning signs were revealed on Friday (05/04) at 9:00 a.m. for Goseong District, Inje County, and Sokcho, Gangneung, and Donghae cities in Gangwon Province.

About 250 hectares of forest or equivalent to 350 times the size of a football field has been burned. In addition, 125 houses, six warehouses, and five vinyl greenhouses were also destroyed.

Because of the fire disaster, power failure in 166 houses, as well as 79 transmitter stations and 235 internet circuits were damaged.

At 11:00 this morning, a man in his 50s reportedly died, and 11 people were injured. Previously it was reported that two people were killed, but later it was discovered that there was one fatality from the fire.

In addition, around 2263 residents have been evacuated to emergency shelters.

The Ministry of Interior and Safety has sent all resources including 346 fire trucks and helicopters, as well as 15,000 troops deployed to the disaster site.
