Suga Comes From a Poor Family from Daegu.

K-Pop lovers surely know Suga. The Bangtan Boys rapper is now one of the most successful idols with big income. Some time ago he reportedly bought an apartment worth tens of billions of rupiah. But its success is not without struggle.

Suga was born to a poor family in Daegu, South Korea under the name Min Yoongi. He is always a good student. But after hearing Stony Skunk's "Reggae Muffin", he became interested in rap. After listening to Epik High's "Fly" song while sitting in sixth grade, he decided that his dream was to become a rapper.

Yoongi began to focus on writing lyrics on a piece of paper instead of paying attention to class. However, when his family was very angry when he found out he wanted to become a rapper. They throw away all the lyrics and demand that he focus on learning. He made basketball as an escape for his emotions and was good at the sport.

But Yoongi's love of music doesn't stop there. He began producing his own music even though his parents did not agree. At the age of 13, he had learned how to use programs such as MIDI to make music.

Because he came from a poor family, Yoongi and his older brother had to work part time to help meet family needs. He also worked to realize his dream of music. He will try to sell his music, but instead he is often cheated. His financial condition is very worrying. Sometimes he is willing to starve in order to be able to buy bus tickets to go home.

Yoongi is part of the underground rap team known as D-Town, short for Daegu Town. At that time, he decided to audition at Big Hit Entertainment, managed to occupy second place and later became a trainee.

During the trainee period, Big Hit CEO Bang Si Hyuk approached Yoongi and offered him a place in the boy group. Bang Si Hyuk promises him a group with a little choreography and emphasizes more on their own music production. Yoongi accepted this offer and was introduced to Kim Namjoon (RM used to be Rap Monster).

During his time as a trainee, Yoongi struggled harder financially. Because his parents did not support his career choice, they decided not to support him financially and instead focus on his brother. Yoongi returned to work part time as an introduction to the newspaper.

When delivering a newspaper, Yoongi was hit by a car in a hit-and-run accident. Instead of telling anyone, he decided to suffer secretly for fear of losing a place in the new Big Hit group. He continued to practice despite injury. Because of that, he still had a hard time moving his arms.

As a result of the accident, Yoongi's mental health was disrupted. He suffered from anxiety and severe depression, and it still affected him to this day. But he never gave up on his mental and physical health problems. He finally debuted as a BTS member in 2013 with the stage name Suga.

BTS does not immediately achieve success and must fight to their place now. During the debut period, seven members stayed in one room in a narrow one-bedroom apartment. They won awards for many New Arrivals Artists including at the 2013 Melon Music Awards, but were not immediately popular.

The popularity of BTS has increased since the release of "I Need U" in April 2015. Their subsequent songs have always won awards. RM and friends won the Artist of the Year at the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards. In 2017, BTS achieved international success by debuting at the American Music Awards. They won the Billboard Music Award in the same year for the Top Social Artist. Recently, BTS attended the Grammy and was nominated for Best Recording Packaging for "Love Yourself: Tear".

Suga itself plays a major role in the success of BTS. Aside from being the main rapper, he produced and helped write lyrics for most BTS music and was recognized by the Korea Copyright Music Association as a producer. He released the "Agust D" mixtape under the name Agust D on August 16, 2016. The lyrics represent his struggle with mental health and how people struggle in society today. The lyrics are raw and emotional and always leave a strong message.
