But recently "The Chronicles of Aseudal" stumbled in a controversy. Because the drama is accused of failing to provide adequate working conditions for its staff members.
On Monday (8/4), Hanbit Center and the broadcasting department of the Hope Solidarity Labor Union announced their plans to hold a press conference today, Wednesday (10/4). During a press conference, they will ask the government to put someone in charge of the work environment and the conditions of the staff. The plan, they will also hold a protest on the same day in front of the CJ ENM Entertainment building.
A representative from the Hope Solidarity Labor Union revealed that the staff of this drama worked for quite a long time. Staff even work more than 20 hours a day while filming abroad.
"Many staff members of 'The Chronicles of Aseudal' suffered from long working hours. We have filed complaints before, but (the conditions) have not improved," said the representative. "When filming abroad, staff work more than 20 hours a day."
The source also revealed that a staff member had a broken bone. This is due to lack of rest time.
"Because of this, a staff member is responsible for the lights and even fractures," he explained. "This incident happened because the staff worked too long and there was no concern for individual workers."
Hanbit Center itself was founded after the suicide of drama producer "Drinking Solo", Lee Han Bit, in 2016. The late reportedly suffered greatly because of poor conditions at work.
Meanwhile, "The Chronicles of Aseudal" is a fantasy drama that took place in the city of Aseudal. The drama will discuss the love, conflict and harmony of Aseudal residents, as the city grew and gave birth to heroes.
