Ji Chang Wook's agency has issued a clarification regarding the tax evasion allegations he faces.
Ji Chang Wook's name suddenly became public attention following news of a special tax audit he underwent by the Seoul Regional Tax Office last March. In addition to the audit, the popular actor was also subject to fines and additional tax bills totaling billions of won. This news sparked mixed reactions from netizens, prompting Ji Chang Wook's agency to issue an official explanation.
Ji Chang Wook's agency, Spring Company, explained that the issue arose from a difference in interpretation between personal income and corporate income. They emphasized that they will comply with all applicable procedures and settle their tax obligations in accordance with the provisions of the relevant tax authorities. "We are issuing an official statement regarding reports of a tax investigation into our actor, Ji Chang Wook. First, we apologize for causing concern to many people due to this issue. However, we would like to emphasize that there was absolutely no intentional omission of income or tax evasion through fraudulent means," the agency stated.
In the statement, Spring Company also noted that throughout the audit process, they submitted the necessary documents transparently and cooperated honestly with the tax authorities. They also acknowledged disagreements with the tax authorities regarding the interpretation and application of tax laws, particularly regarding income earned from Ji Chang Wook's entertainment activities. "We have confirmed that there are disagreements with the tax authorities regarding the interpretation and application of tax laws regarding whether income from the actor's entertainment activities is attributed to an individual or a corporation based on substantive tax principles," the agency explained.
Despite these issues, Spring Company asserted that they have consistently complied with tax laws and procedures without any significant issues. Honest fulfillment of tax obligations is their top priority. "Therefore, we respect the results of the National Tax Service's investigation and plan to pay the additional taxes imposed without delay in accordance with relevant procedures," the agency concluded.
