Lee Hongki, main vocalist of F.T. Island, shares stories about group dynamics that have changed a lot over time. Moreover, they were also abandoned by Choi Jonghoon after being involved in the Burning Sun scandal.

Lee Hongki revealed how the relationship between F.T. Island after being left by its leader, Choi Jong Hoon, as a result of the Burning Sun scandal in 2019. Indirectly, the band's frontman talked about the change in group dynamics with its members now decreasing.

On July 9, a video featuring Lee Hong Ki was uploaded to the YouTube channel "Vivo TV". In the video, host Song Eun Yi asked Hongki, "You guys at F.T. Island don't fight often, do you?"

Lee Hongki answered, "Recently, the team is very good. We used to fight a lot, over trivial things like instant noodles and side dishes."

He continued, "For example, one day, our manager prepared a regular menu, but one of the members said, 'Today I didn't mention wanting this. I want something else.' In response, I would say, 'Just eat it.'" This admission drew laughter.

Eun Yi also felt, "Even two people can fight. It's already difficult with two people, so how difficult will it be with five, three, or four members?"

In response, Hongki indirectly discussed the departure of the members including Jong Hoon. The former leader had to leave F.T. Island after being involved in the Burning Sun scandal and being found guilty of the crime of rape.

"Now, with three members, we get along very well," said Hongki.

Eun Yi added, "Because so much time has passed, we now know that there are certain things that will bother each other."

"I always feel guilty towards my members because I have a strong personality, and they often follow my instructions. It's rare for someone to say, 'We like what Hongki is doing,'" explained Hongki

Meanwhile, F.T. Island debuted as a five-member group in 2007, but now operates as a trio after Jonghoon and Song Seunghyun left. Jong Hoon was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison on charges including gang rape and illegal recording, and was released in November 2021. He announced his withdrawal from the team and retirement from the entertainment industry in 2019 when he was arrested.

The story of F.T. Island provides many lessons for the younger generation. Dynamics in groups, although full of challenges, can be resolved with good communication and understanding between members. Those who learn from mistakes, continue to try to improve themselves, become real examples of how obstacles can be overcome with positive synergy and commitment to a common goal. (wk/inta)
