BIGBANG's Daesung recently shared interesting past memories with Wonder Girls' Sunye and Yubin. As it turns out, the relationship between these two groups is much different than many people imagine.
BIG BANG and Wonder Girls were both active as 2nd generation idols. When Daesung invited Sunye and Yubin, they discussed how difficult it was for idols at that time to be friends.
On June 28, Daesung released a video entitled “Oh My, Bang Girl” on his channel, ‘D-LITE’. In the video, Sunye and Yubin are guests and share stories about their relationship with BIGBANG members 17 years ago.
Daesung mentioned that when they appeared together on stage, there were comments from many people who said they "didn't look close at all."
While laughing, Daesung explained, "That's because we're not close."
Sunye then added, “We met often at that time, but we were shy and didn't have much in common. We train together and then go our separate ways.”
Yubin also added, “Even though we are all the same age, like G-Dragon and Taeyang, and Sunye and Yeeun are the same age as Daesung, we are not close. It's funny looking back now.”
Recalling their interactions, Daesung mentioned, “There were managers around, so we didn't really get to know each other. If we happen to pass by, I'll apologize and we'll continue training.”
Sunye added that technology was a factor at that time, “Back then, we didn't have things like KakaoTalk, so it was difficult to keep in touch or exchange contact information.”
Different from how awkward it used to be, now Yubin and Sunye can casually chat with Daesung. When Daesung tried to seek validation that Generation 2's dance was not in sync like the younger ones, the two former Wonder Girls members firmly denied it and only BIGBANG was out of sync.
This conversation highlights the separate but respectful relationship between these two iconic K-pop groups in their early years. The situation at that time was very different from today's era, where technology makes communication and collaboration easier.
These memories provide an illustration of how environment and conditions can influence the interpersonal dynamics between K-pop idols. Despite their social separation at that time, BIGBANG and Wonder Girls still managed to become legends in the K-pop industry that fans still remember to this day. (wk/inta)
