Drama Kim Tae Ri 'Twenty-Five, Twenty-One' Translucent China, Slowly Unblocking

The drama starring Kim Tae Ri 'Twenty Five, Twenty-One' will be broadcast on the Chinese streaming platform officially today, Monday (12/12). Previously, China had blocked South Korean content.

The drama Kim Tae Ri, starring with Nam Joo Hyuk, namely "Twenty Five, Twenty-One", has finally officially aired on Youku, a streaming application from China. With the increase in dramas penetrating China, it is suspected that the blocking of South Korean content has been opened slowly.

On Monday (12/12), "Twenty Five, Twenty-One" can be seen on Youku. The streaming platform is the largest and is owned by the Alibaba Group. They recently bought the rights to the JTBC drama "Watching".

Another OTT, Bilibili has aired "Hospital Playlist" Season 1 from December 8th. The drama is the first time in more than six months since "Bad and Crazy" which aired on May 25.

After the South Korea and China Summit on November 15, Korean content started broadcasting. Whereas previously, China had blocked access to Korean content since 2016. At the summit, the two countries arrived at an agreement to exchange Korean culture with China.

Furthermore, the foreign ministers of South Korea and China are scheduled earlier this week. It is hoped that the two countries will accelerate the improvement of their relations even though there are several obstacles that must be overcome.

Professor Choi Jin Baek of the China Research Center at the National Diplomatic Academy said, "China is trying to smoothly untangle its relations with neighboring countries in Xi Jinping's third term, but broadcasting our content is part of this trend."

Meanwhile, the broadcast of "Twenty Five, Twenty-One" in China received a warm welcome from fans. The streaming platform has started distributing promotions for this drama by changing the title to Chinese characters.

"Twenty Five, Twenty-One" itself had become a hit in the first half of 2022. Kim Tae Ri plays Na Hee Do, a fencer who struggles to achieve his dream and Nam Joo Hyuk plays Baek Yi Jin whose family went bankrupt due to the 1998 crisis. (wk/inta)
