Some Kpop Idols go on extreme diets. This is because Korean idols are demanded by the industry to appear perfect both physically and in performance. No wonder, if some of them are willing to go on a strict diet to maintain body shape.

Diet is a common thing for K-pop idols. Not a few of them admit to limiting what they eat to extreme levels.

This is because one of the reasons is that the beauty standards of K-pop idols are so high that looking perfect is a pressure for them.

In fact, this extreme diet is not allowed to be imitated by anyone. Launching Koreaboo, Saturday (17/9/2022), here are the rows of Kpop idols who go on an extreme diet.

List of Kpop Idols Who Go on an Extreme Diet

1. Jimin BTS

Jimin isn't the only BTS member struggling with weight and dieting. However, it looks like he's on the most extreme diet of all the other BTS members.

He revealed in 2018 that he had lost a lot of weight due to too much exercise and a dangerous diet. This happened during the “Blood Sweat & Tears” era and the other members got really worried for Jimin because he would pass out during practice.

Then, what kind of diet does Jimin do? Not eating at all except one meal for 10 days. He admitted this during BTS's appearance on the episode 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator,' where he explained that he didn't like his chubby appearance.

His fellow members even asked him to come eat with them, but Jimin refused and continued to persevere despite his poor health due to an extreme diet. Luckily, Jimin hasn't been on any more dangerous diets since then.

2. Xiumin EXO

Meanwhile, most people probably think of female K-pop idols in terms of extreme diets. However, apparently there are many male idols who also experience it. Xiumin is one of them.

He has been harshly criticized for gaining weight since he debuted, and this has led to a struggle with his weight. He also seems to have a "yo-yo" effect where he loses weight quickly but also increases drastically.

During promotions for “Growl” in 2013, the EXO member went on the most extreme diet. Start from a coffee diet, consisting of eating only one meal each day, and drinking excessive amounts of coffee to help you lose weight fast.

She dropped to her lowest weight during promotions, but luckily got back to a healthy level after that. Since then, she has advised against skipping meals to lose weight.

3. BIGBANG's T.O.P

T.O.P is another male idol who has struggled with his weight and diet, not thanks to pressure from YG Entertainment. When he was a trainee at the company, he weighed more than Kpop idol standards, and was told that he would only debut after he reached his ideal weight.

This led T.O.P to embark on a dangerous diet consisting of only unsweetened jelly, mineral water, and sometimes kidney beans as a snack. In addition, he also exercises excessively every day.

Nonetheless, he did achieve the weight the company was forced to put him on. It's definitely not a healthy or defensible way to go on a diet.

4. TWICE Momo

Twice's Momo pre-debut pictures and videos make it hard to believe that she was ever expected to go on a diet. However, in reality, she was on what is considered one of the most extreme diets in the Korean industry.

Prior to his debut, JYP Entertainment told him that he had to lose 15 pounds of Momo's weight. In just a week, Momo went on a diet that had absolutely no healthy way to lose 15 pounds in no time, and having that expectation for anyone is ridiculous.

Momo went on a diet by not only eating ice cubes, but also constantly being in the gym. She even stated that she feared for her life at one point to the point of severe dehydration, and had trouble sleeping for fear she wouldn't wake up.

Despite this extreme diet, Momo didn't lose 15 pounds in a week which even sounds humanly impossible. So, he was given three more days to achieve it.

In fact, his fellow members were afraid of him, and said that he was so pale that they feared he would faint and fall ill. Luckily, she no longer has to maintain an unhealthy low weight, and lately she's been looking absolutely stunning with how toned and healthy she is thanks to a stable healthy diet.

5. IU

Not only did IU share the dangerous diet she was on at one point in time, but it actually led to YouTubers and others trying to emulate the diet. The talented Kpop idol was deeply hurt when someone in the audience on stage made his solo debut in 2008, when he was only 15 years old. At that time, someone called him a pig and because of that he took an extreme diet.

In 2013 on 'Night of TV Entertainment,' he shared what he ate during that time. In fact, the name of this diet is MyProAna, apparently indicating that it is spreading among the anorexia-promoting community.

This consists of eating an apple for breakfast, a slice or two of sweet potato for lunch, and a protein shake for dinner. Side effects of the diet can include weakness, fainting, and just general unwell, which is not surprising given the restrictions.

Fortunately, IU realized that it was harming her body and stopped her diet after some time. Since then, she has consulted with health professionals to help herself stay healthy.

Those are some types of extreme diets that some Kpop idols do and are not recommended for anyone to imitate. Because, there is a much healthier, safer and more sustainable way to achieve the ideal life. /celebrities.id
