STAYC was recently mired in controversy after a fan of J expressed his displeasure with the other members' actions towards their bias. It then became a trending topic in Pann's online community and attracted a lot of attention.
Korean netizens judged some of the STAYC members to be overreacting with their jokes against J. In particular, because J has a characteristic deep voice, the other members, especially Yoon, Sumin, and Seeun, have repeatedly imitated J's voice and laughed amongst each other.
They raised his voice, making it sound like a man's voice whereas J's voice wasn't really that hard to hear. Netizens said this joke may be funny and harmless at first, it's getting annoying because Yoon, Seeun and Sumin don't stop doing it in every STAYC comeback promotion.
The members were very happy to make fun of J, but seeing J's expression, netizens noticed that he was uncomfortable and didn't find the joke funny. On one occasion, J was clearly uncomfortable and even grabbed Yoon's shoulder to stop him.
Many netizens added that even though the STAYC members had no bad intentions, they should stop joking around like that. Moreover, J's expression when the members imitate him doesn't look good either. On the other hand, others saw that this was not a big deal, but just a funny joke among the members.
"What the hell! They were just joking but people took it so seriously. If this goes viral, then the members probably won't dare to joke anymore," commented a netizen. "4th generation idols are always being watched closely, maybe the public will only be happy if they stand still like statues and don't interact at all," said another netizen.
"I know that the members are just joking, but sometimes J's face is also a bit sad," said netizens. "Let's say members of the same group are parodying, then making fun of this and that, how can the person being teased not feel self-deprecating? It's funny at first but seeing them keep doing it is a bit..." added another.
"Isn't that funny? Yoon really likes J so he often teases him. STAYC usually jokes like that, it's not a big problem. J doesn't show anger, both idols and fans are happy, and that's enough," said a netizen. J doesn't look happy either. He even tries to smile sheepishly and then grabs Yoon's shoulder to tell him to stop joking. A lot of jokes like that sometimes make them aware of their own voices. (wk/goddess)
