Lee Hyori
Lee Hyori was asked to give her point of view on beauty and she stated that she generally thinks that people are beautiful, and she sees beautiful aspects of them.
Lee Hyori recently appeared on a YouTube live broadcast hosted by makeup artist Hong Hyun Jung, an old friend and acquaintance. On this day, Lee Hyori, Hong Hyun Jung, and two fellow makeup artists answered questions sent by viewers regarding beauty standards.
Lee Hyori began, "Women face a lot of difficulties when it comes to beauty, makeup, hair, and things like that. But really, there aren't many clear and direct answers out there. They usually say, 'You're still young so you're good. -fine', or simply, 'You're not very handsome'. But today, we're going to give some very definite and honest answers."
A makeup artist then asked Lee Hyori, "Have you ever heard someone tell you that you are ugly, in your entire life? Never, right?" To this Lee Hyori replied, "There are a lot of malicious comments saying that. I mean, I'm sure they didn't mean it but still."
Hearing this, the makeup artists sneered and said, "They only left those comments to insult you, because they were jealous." Lee Hyori then confidently said, "Actually, because I was born beautiful, I never gave up on my appearance."
Next, when a makeup artist commented, "Beauty is all about confidence," Lee Hyori denied, "That's not true. Appearance is just appearance. So what if you have confidence? Honestly, appearance is something you are born with, to the limit. But also, to a certain extent, it's about how much you work on your outward appearance, especially after your forties, and how you live your life."

Makeup artist Hong Hyun Jung also claimed, "For me, beauty is about the confidence and charm I find in my unique worldview." However, Lee Hyori responded with, "I hate it when people say that."
Hong Hyun Jung explained, "If you have high self-confidence or self-esteem, or if you know what your strengths are and you flaunt those strengths to your advantage, you can shine even if you are ugly." Lee Hyori wasn't convinced, and argued, "It's just an ugly person who shines [with confidence]."
Lee Hyori was then asked to give her point of view on beauty. She stated, "Well, for me, I generally think that people are beautiful, and I see the beautiful aspects of them. Everyone has good points and bad points. Now, not everyone knows what the good points are. And if outsiders identify the points -your points, it's going to take too long. So it's up to you to figure out what they are, and then try to make those good points stand out."
Nonetheless, Lee Hyori also added, "But to be honest, there are people in the world who are born beautiful, and they are just beautiful people. I am a celebrity myself, so I met many celebrities. So I've seen them, people who are really beautiful. They were born that way. Sorry to have crushed your hopes, but that's just how it is," causing laughter from the surrounding makeup artists.
Lastly, Lee Hyori advised, "Let's just say that you notice bad things about yourself. Like with your body or something. For example, I think my legs are very short. If you notice it, don't give up, but keep working instead of seeing your bad points only as bad points, use that as a motivator to work on yourself and make yourself a better person." (wk/goddess)
