'Our Beloved Summer' Writer Talks About Team Against Happy Ends

'Our Beloved Summer' tells the story of a former couple who are forced to reunite years after their relationship ended badly. This drama stars Choi Woo Shik and Kook Yeon Su.

The scriptwriter of "Our Beloved Summer" named Lee Na Eun recently underwent an interview session discussing many interesting things about the popular SBS drama. The scriptwriter admitted that he almost made a different ending for "Our Beloved Summer".

It is known that together in the last episode of "Our Beloved Summer", Choi Ung (Choi Woo Shik) and Kook Yeon Su (Kim Da Mi) had a long-distance relationship because the man had to study abroad for his dream as an architect. But the couple eventually got married.

Writer Lee Na Eun said that she originally entered the team that was against happy endings. "At first, I thought the ending might be childish or cheesy. Because I'm someone who is against ending dramas with '…and they get married and live happily ever after'," said Lee Na Eun.

Writer Lee Na Eun then revealed the reason why she finally changed her mind. "But as I wrote, I started to feel like I wanted Ung and Yeon Soo to be happy. I wanted to give viewers, who have been suffering following (with the two characters) until then, laughter and hope," added Lee Na Eun.

"So I ended the drama with them as a married couple," continued Lee Na Eun. The writer then said what kind of drama he wants to write in the future. "The key element of this drama is the absence of criminals," said Lee Na Eun.

"Of course, while going through life and meeting many people, you end up getting hurt by some of them, but I think it's hard to find characters that are portrayed in one dimension as bad in my drama," continued Lee Na Eun.

"Humans are three-dimensional, so I like to see them from several different angles. What I want to maintain (in my writing) until the end is that point of view: seeing people in three dimensions, not from just one angle," concluded Lee Na Eun.

Meanwhile, "Our Beloved Summer" tells the story of a former couple who are forced to reunite years after their relationship ended badly. When the documentary they starred in while still in high school 10 years ago suddenly goes viral, they awkwardly meet again to make a sequel. (wk/charity)
