On February 5, 2022, Ningning chatted with her fans in Chinese via the message platform Dear You Bubble. The Chinese member said, "Wow, I'm glad we got the first gold medal tonight."
"My homeroom teacher just told me that the two Olympic winners are our alumni, which is an honor. Every athlete deserves respect," Ningning added.
Ningning's support soon became a hot topic as controversy arose over China's decision to win the gold medal after the short track mixed relay semifinals on February 5.
While Ningning showed her support for the Chinese skater who controversially won the gold medal, there were many articles in Korea indicating that they were not happy with the SM Entertainment idol's statement.
