Netizens Show Protests About Supporting Ningning Aespa to Chinese Athletes with Photocard Scissors

A post on the online community site Pann highlighted how many Koreans showed their protest against Ningning by cutting the 'Next Level' singer's photocard.

Our sense of nationalism seems to rise with the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, as well as celebrities. Recently, Ningning Aespa drew protests from South Korean netizens after showing support for athletes from their country, China.

Last weekend, NingNing said in her message via Dear U platform, Bubble, "Wow, I'm glad we got our first gold medal tonight," adding, "My homeroom teacher just told me that the two Olympic winners are our alumni, which is a honour. Every athlete deserves respect," he wrote. The messages were written in Chinese.

The anger of South Korean netizens was in line with accusations of cheating that were leveled against Chinese athletes in the men's 1000 meter short cross speed skating match. Here, Ren Ziwei from China managed to win the gold medal.

A post on the online community site Pann highlighted how many Koreans expressed their protest over Ningning's support for Chinese athletes. This post includes screenshots from a TikTok video where people cut out the photocard of the "Next Level" singer.

The post was responded to by other netizens. Apparently they don't like seeing K-Pop idols supporting China even though it's from their own country.

"Who cares, he's a jjanggae (the best dog, a derogatory term that Koreans use against Chinese people like how the Chinese call Koreans 'bangzi')," commented a netizen. "As a Korean, this is something I can understand," another netizen commented. "Who cares, he is jjanggae," said another.

"Jjanggae is worse than us at things like that, so the people of our country shouldn't crop the image if they want to now?" said netizens. "But I hate the fact that people copy what Hannam did, keke. To be honest, Hannam usually does this when they leave the fandom of female idols right?" another comment. "I don't like Chinese people, but it's funny to see we can't get rid of Tiktok even so, kekekekeke," added another. (wk/goddess)
