BTS was awarded the Album of the Year award, one of the four grand prizes or Daesangs. Unfortunately, BTS was unable to attend the awards ceremony tonight.
BTS (Bangtan Boys) was absent at the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) which took place tonight, Saturday (11/12). But the seven-member group was awarded the Album of the Year award, one of the four main prizes or Daesangs.
MAMA 2021 will be held at CJ ENM Studio Center in Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do on. This event was hosted by Lee Hyori who was the first female MC at the awards ceremony.
One of the Daesangs, Album of the Year, was awarded to BTS with for their release "BE." The results are said to be completely commensurate with what BTS has achieved with this special album.

"BE" beat four other competitor albums, namely "Sticker" NCT 127, "Savage" aespa, "Lilac" IU and "Hot Sauce" NCT Dream. These albums also scored fantastic sales figures.
Unfortunately, BTS was unable to attend the award ceremony due to self-quarantine. The members recently returned to Korea after completing overseas schedules such as the concert in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time BTS has won the Daesang Album of the Year at MAMA. They have won this award for the fourth year in a row with “Love Yourself: Tear” (2018), “Map of the Soul: Persona” (2019) and “Map of the Soul: 7” (2020).
"BE" was released on November 20, 2020 and has scored a number of proud achievements. The album contains the single "Dynamite" which is BTS's first song to top the Billboard Hot 100. The lead single "Life Goes On," also debuted at the top of the Hot 100, becoming the third BTS song to top the chart.
"BE" has been certified three million by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) and platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). Global album sales reached 2.6 million copies.
In other news, BIGHIT Music announced that BTS will be taking their second official vacation to rest and recover. The members will return with a new album as well as an offline concert in Seoul in March 2022. (wk/chus)
