Mnet was accused of treating TXT badly during the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) on December 11, 2021. Many fans were very disappointed and wondered if the station was angry with the Big Hit music group.
Every year, MAMA always attracts attention whether it's for positive or negative things. This time, TXT fans thought that their favorite group was treated badly, not once but three times.
Many fans pointed to the triple evidence that Mnet treated TXT badly, even suspecting that the station did so because BTS (Bangtan Boys) was unable to attend their award ceremony.
First, Yeonjun is not included in the fourth generation idol-idol collaboration video thumbnail. This stage had six idols, however, Mnet only designed the cover image with five of them, Stray Kids' Hyunjin, ATEEZ's Wooyoung, ITZY's Yeji, Aespa's Karina and ENHYPEN's Heeseung.
Mnet was immediately criticized by fans and forced to change the cover image to include all six idols, including Yeonjun. Many people are still confused about how this station could forget about Yeonjun during the editing process even though the video title includes all six names.
Secondly, there were a lot of technical problems during TXT's performance of their two songs, "Frost" and "LO$ER=LO♡ER," along with a spectacular dance break. The worst thing is that during TXT's dance break, Mnet played background music with a delay of a few seconds, greatly affecting their performance.
Big Hit Music quickly uploaded the dance practice version after TXT's performance ended. According to fans, this is the first time Big Hit has shared a dance practice video in such a short time. They suspected that Big Hit was deliberately satire on Mnet.
Even the dancers who performed with TXT were very disappointed with Mnet. One person wrote on their Instagram Story, "Don't watch the show video with the music delayed, please watch this video (Big Hit video) instead (with angry face emoji)."
Another dancer also expressed his frustration, "Everyone worked really hard for this dance break, but in MAMA video, the background music was postponed. Everyone, please watch the official video (Big Hit video)."
Finally, Mnet interrupted Soobin's speech when TXT received the Bonsang Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10 award. While he was still giving a speech, the microphone suddenly cut off and the background music started playing. Despite his surprise, Soobin handled the situation professionally, continuing to speak loudly to finish his speech quickly.
MOA fandom and netizens are still very angry with the way Mnet treated TXT at the 2021 MAMA. Many people believe that Mnet is not happy that Big Hit chose not to let BTS attend MAMA and then treated TXT badly.
