BTS' 'Butter' Has Made a Historic Debut on the Billboard Charts. Billboard Officially Announces That BTS' Newest Single Has Taken No. 1 On The Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
BTS's (Bangtan Boys) “Butter” has made a historic debut on the Billboard charts. Yesterday, Tuesday (1/6) June local time, Billboard officially announced that BTS's latest single "Butter" has taken first place on Billboard's famous Hot 100 chart.
This is a weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the United States. “Butter” is now BTS’s fourth song to top the Hot 100, following “Dynamite,” their “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” collaboration with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, and “Life Goes On.”
Since "Dynamite", "Life Goes On," and "Butter" all debuted at No. 1 on the chart, BTS has now become the first group in history to have three songs enter the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1. According to Billboard, no other group has more than one.
The only artists to have debuted more than three songs at No. 1 on the Hot 100 are Ariana Grande with 5 songs, Justin Bieber with 4 songs, and Drake with 4 songs. The three are categorized as soloists and not groups like BTS.
BTS also took just nine months to reach the No. four. Their first 1 on the Hot 100. This makes them the fastest artist to achieve the feat since Justin Timberlake in 2006-2007. Among the groups, they are the fastest to get their first four spots on the charts since the Jackson 5 in 1970.
"Butter" also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Digital Song Sales chart (which measures digital sales in the United States) this week. This makes them the first group in history to top the charts with seven different songs.
According to MRC Data (formerly Nielsen Music), "Butter" earned a total of 32.2 million streams in the US and sold 242,800 downloads in the week ending May 27. The song also garnered 18.1 million radio views in the week ending May 30. .
In addition, "Butter" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. The US charts, achieved their highest weekly worldwide sales and streams since Billboard first launched the chart last year. The two charts rank songs based on streaming and sales data from over 200 regions.
The new single also entered Billboard's Streaming Songs chart at No. 4 and the Radio Songs chart at No. 39. This feat made it the group's highest debut on the last chart after "Dynamite" (which charted at No. 49 and peaked at No. 10 last year). (wk/putr)
