SEVENTEEN's Hip-Hop Unit Members Wonwoo and Mingyu recently talked to Seventeen Magazine about their recently released single 'Bittersweet' featuring Lee Hi.
Hip-hop unit SEVENTEEN (II) members Wonwoo and Mingyu recently spoke with Seventeen Magazine about their recently released single "Bittersweet" featuring Lee Hi. In their interview, it was mentioned how many Carat (SEVENTEEN fans) did not expect this type of song to come from two members of a hip-hop unit.
In response, Mingyu shared that he and Wonwoo didn't particularly focus on one direction. Instead, they both wanted to find a genre that suited their vocals.
“I don't think we have to start thinking that we have to go in a certain direction or show something completely different from the previous SEVENTEEN style. We just thought of the kind of genre that suited our vocal tone and overall vibe, and naturally started to point toward this (bossa nova), "Mingyu said.
To help with this direction, Wonwoo revealed that they contacted the talented vocalist Lee Hi to appear on the song. Wonwoo added that he immediately thought of Lee Hi as a perfect match for this project!
“For me, personally, as soon as we top the vocal line, Lee Hi is the first female vocalist that comes to mind. I knew he would be the perfect addition to the track, so we contacted him first, he agreed, and that's how we ended up working together, "said Wonwoo.
Along with Lee Hi, Mingyu and Wonwoo also showed off their amazing vocals! Wonwoo even mentioned how he felt the change in his vocal skills during the creation process. Together, these three captivating vocals make up an amazing song!
“Bittersweet” started the Seventeen 2021 project “Power of Love”, and it expresses the conflict between the sweetness of newfound love and the friendship between a group of 3 old friends.
Wonwoo and Mingyu helped write lyrics about the dilemma between love and friendship. On the other hand, SEVENTEEN is currently also preparing to make a comeback on June 18th with their eighth mini album "Your Choice". (wk/putr)
