MONSTA X has raised fans' enthusiasm ahead of the release of their 9th mini album, "One of a Kind". This mini album was originally due to be released on June 1, 2021.
But now unpleasant news comes from the group made by Starship Entertainment. Because the leader, Shownu, is reportedly not going to participate in the "One of a Kind" promotion period.
This can be seen from the announcement uploaded by Starship Entertainment on Monsta X's official Twitter on Monday (3/5). It was also revealed through the letter that Shownu had to be absent due to problems with his eyesight.
According to Starship Entertainment, Shownu was diagnosed with left retinal detachment or amotio retinae in July 2020. That's why Shownu then underwent eye surgery which luckily went well.
"Since then, SHOWNU has undergone routine eye examinations because it is difficult to recover to normal conditions," added Starship Entertainment in its letter. And sure enough, recently, Shownu has felt discomfort in his eyes due to exposure to too bright light while preparing for a comeback with MONSTA X.
"He immediately checked himself into the hospital. As a result, there were complications due to his illness so SHOWNU was advised to undergo a period of rest to avoid the worst possibility in the future," explained Starship Entertainment.
The agency which also oversees Cosmic Girls emphasized that the health of their artists is the main point. For this reason, after a long discussion with Shownu and MONSTA X, it was decided that the 1992-born idol would be on hiatus and not participate in promotional activities for "One of a Kind".
"As a result, MONSTA X will continue promotions with a 5 member formation," said Starship Entertainment. "Currently SHOWNU is resting and Starship Entertainment will take the best steps so that his condition will recover soon."
Since this official letter was uploaded, support for Shownu and his recovery has immediately flowed from fans. They emphasized that it was okay for Shownu not to participate in the promotion so that the idol's condition would immediately improve.
