Former U-KISS member Eli's ex-wife recently talked about their divorce. He revealed how they decided to separate.
Eli, who is an American citizen, married his wife, racing model Ji Yeon Soo in 2017. He and his wife have an 11 year age difference, which caused many to oppose their relationship. The couple has a son. But in November 2020, they announced a divorce.
On March 29, 2021, Ji Yeon Soo appeared on Kang Ho Dong's "Rice Heart" and revealed to the public that they were just a couple pretending to be happy. Not only did they fake their happy family life for television, it also revealed how they actually decided to separate.
Eli and Ji Yeon Soo moved to the United States after they stopped accepting jobs in South Korea. In order to get a visa, they needed some documentation that Ji Yeon Soo didn't have at the time. He then returned to South Korea alone to collect the documents. However Eli called her from the United States and told her about the divorce.
Ji Yeon Soo shared that he tried to hold her back at first. But in the end, he wanted a divorce. Since her son is with Eli in the United States, Ji Yeon Soo has to find a way to make things work again. He decided to give them time and wait 6 months.
But things got more complicated when Eli gave up his South Korean citizenship. He previously had dual citizenship with his marriage registered in South Korea. But when he gave up, he was listed as single in the United States. On the other hand, Ji Yeon Soo is a married woman in South Korea.
Eli keeps putting off the documentation needed to carry out the divorce completely, causing him great stress. He even suggested that they get back together. Finally, Ji Yeon Soo survived on the help of drugs and sleeping pills for two months. He stated that he might have to file a lawsuit to get Eli to cooperate.
Ji Yeon Soo also sadly reveals that she almost committed suicide. He went up to the 20th floor and stood at the edge of the building, holding on to the railing. She shared that what stopped her was the thought of her mother being devastated by the news of her daughter's death. However, Ji Yeon Soo is still in torment because she can't see her son.
Things might have gotten better for the former model even though her son was still not with her. She is currently saving for beauty school fees. (wk / chus)
