SHINee has just released a teaser schedule for their first comeback in two years. But the title of the album sparked the theory that their new song might have been originally given to BoA. SHINee's comeback album is titled "Don't Call Me".
On BoA's reality talk show titled “Nobody Talks to BoA”, the veteran singer sits down with SM Entertainment founder and chairman Lee Soo Man to discuss all things music-related. During "Episode 3", Lee Soo Man jokingly called out to BoA for turning down one of the songs he gave her.
Last December, BoA made a comeback with her 10th studio album to commemorate her 20th birthday. With that, he released the title song "Better", which was composed by Yoo Young Jin. However, "Better" was not originally intended to be a title track.
In contrast, Lee Soo Man revealed that he presented two potential title songs namely “Better” and another song. The second song is known to be made by Lee Soo Man himself. The SM Entertainment boss hoped BoA would choose the latter, but he ended up choosing a song by Yoo Young Jin. "You don't want to use this song that I prepared," Lee Soo Man told BoA.
According to their conversation, BoA rejected Lee Soo Man's song for two reasons. First, he already had a dance in mind that he wanted to try, and “Better” fits his choreography plan more. Another reason is that, in BoA's mind, Lee Soo Man's song sounded like it was intended for a group, not a soloist.
"I hear you think 'Does he want me to be in a band?'," Asked Lee Soo Man. Lee Soo Man then revealed the title of the rejected song "Don't Call Me". He even sang the trailer for the viewers.
"I've never given a song that I don't like. But an artist refuses to take this song that I like," continued Lee Soo Man. And now, it's been revealed that SHINee will be releasing an album called “Don't Call Me” as well.
Although the title track has not been disclosed, SHINee's albums often use the same name as the lead single. So there's a good chance that the song will also be titled "Don't Call Me".
Plus, Taemin recently had a live broadcast titled phone emoji in which he said to fans, “Don't Call Me”. Initially, fans thought he was greeting sasaeng who often called up idols when they broadcast. However, it looks like he's been giving spoilers for a new title song all along.
Although there is no confirmation that SHINee's new comeback song is the same song that BoA rejected, some fans are already convinced of that theory. Apart from that, Minho also appeared on "Episode 3" of "Nobody Talks to BoA". While there, he joked that SM Entertainment should give SHINee some "backup songs" which BoA rejected. What do you think?
