SHINee is back with a new album titled "Don't Call Me" after two years of absence. This veteran SM Entertainment group has some praise and advice for aespa and EXO as their seniors.
When SHINee debuted with "Replay" in 2008, the K-Pop industry was in a much different place. After thirteen years of making quality music, overcoming challenges, and breaking records, they're still going strong.
In an interview with Rolling Stone to talk about their comeback, they were asked if any of the junior groups caught their attention. Key chose his label partner aespa, SM Entertainment's newest girl group. This 4th generation rookie has been making waves since debuting in November 2020 with “Black Mamba”.
Taemin is excited to see how the aespa AI concept will unfold. "They're from our label, but I'm curious to see how the aespa concept plays out. Communicating with fans through music can be a very emotional thing, so I was interested to see how it works with virtual aespa AI characters," he said.
Key also mentioned his other agency mates, EXO, who have become one of the most successful 3rd generation K-Pop groups. EXO debuted in 2012 with the digital single "MAMA".
"Even though they are not necessarily a new junior group, I'm looking forward to EXO and what they will do after all the members complete their military service," said the owner of the name Kim Kibum.
As one of the few remaining active groups of second generation K-Pop, Rolling Stone asked if SHINee had any suggestions for their juniors. For Key, time and life experience are everything.
"To be honest, there are many times when we feel like we can barely survive. Rather than just going through hardships, I really think it will take about 10 years for someone to be able to broaden their perspective. The only way to make it a wise choice can be made by someone with years of experience is having years of experience, "he said.
"So it only lasted ten years?" Taemin said with a laugh. "Seriously, I think it's very important to talk to each other and fight and find out what caused the problem early on. A lot of communication is important," he continued. (wk / chus)
