The 2020 Blue Dragon Film Awards Award Night Or The 41st Was Originally Scheduled For Next December 11. However, the Sharp Increase in COVID-19 Cases in South Korea Has Forced Organizers To Postpone It.
The sharp increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in South Korea in the past month is quite disturbing for local residents. This outbreak is known to have penetrated the entertainment world where staff and several celebrities were confirmed to have contracted the virus from Wuhan. One of them is solo singer Kim Chung Ha.
Along with the increase in cases, the prestigious Blue Dragon Film Awards 2020 or the 41st decided to postpone the awards ceremony which was originally scheduled for December 11. This decision was made because the organizers wanted to prioritize the safety of the invited celebrities and film people.
This is based on an official statement announced by the organizers on Tuesday (8/12) today. "The 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards scheduled for Friday, December 11, will be postponed until early 2021 due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus infection," said organizers.
They continued, "There is a growing social concern over an uncontrolled increase in COVID-19 cases, so we have decided to prevent further spread and postpone the ceremony for the safety of filmmakers. We ask for understanding from all actors, film industry personnel, media personnel, and the audience involved, and pray that the COVID-19 situation will be resolved soon. "
Another statement reads, "More than any other year, the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards has a very competitive and diverse list of nominees. Instead of just an award ceremony, it is meant to provide hope and comfort to the film industry which has been hit hard by COVID-19. But the explosive increase in COVID-19 cases means we must put filmmakers' safety first and postpone the ceremony. "
Meanwhile, the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards will be given to films released between 11 October 2019 and 29 October 2020. Later this event will again be hosted by Yoo Yeon Seok and Kim Hye Soo.
