It's hard to imagine BLACKPINK (Black Pink) with another name, but the group revealed that they originally planned to use a different name. BLACKPINK recently sat down with Access and discussed their group name.
During the interview, the members were asked how they got the name "BLACKPINK". Jennie shared that the group originally wanted to find a word that combines the words "black" and "pink".
"We struggled at the beginning with the name of the group. If there is a color mixed with black and pink, as in the right amount, then we will choose that color," said Jennie.
However, they couldn't find an exact word that combined "black" and "pink", so they decided to make it one word. "We just put it (the word 'black' and 'pink') together and make one word with it," said Rose.
Jennie also commented on how they wanted their group name to show how diverse their group is. "We want to express the diversity of the group and how far and different genres we can go and show you," he added.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will release their first full album titled "BLACKPINK THE ALBUM" on October 2nd tomorrow. This album contains the singles "How You Like That" and "Ice Cream" as well as 6 other songs including the title track "Lovesick Girls" and "Bet You Wanna" which is a collaboration with Cardi B.
