Onew SHINee was confirmed to complete his mandatory military service earlier than scheduled.
According to reports from South Korean media, Onew will complete his mandatory military service on Wednesday (08/07).
Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the South Korean military set a rule to prohibit conscripted participants from taking leave while serving mandatory military service.
Instead, compulsory military participants are allowed to take leave if the term of office is almost complete. However, they are not allowed to return to military bases until their term of service is over.
Onew is scheduled to complete his mandatory military service on 20 July 2020. But because of the COVID-19 prevention protocol, Onew took a leave of absence and indirectly completed his mandatory military service on 8 July 2020.
With this, Onew became the first member of SHINee to complete his mandatory military service, since starting in December 2018.
