SM Entertainment released special merchandise featuring their artists to tour Japan. One of the largest agencies in South Korea that offers a variety of merchandise for fans ranging from hand fans, handbags, waist bags, key chains and more.
Unfortunately, fans were not so happy with some items for the tour. The reason is because their designs are too similar to items from a number of famous fashion houses.
Girls' Generation's Tae Yeon metal wallet looks similar to the Balenciaga collection wallet. So is Lee Donghae and Eunhyuk's jacket. The wallet they issued also looks like a "GUCCY" design from the famous Gucci fashion house.
Not only Balenciaga and Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent's design was also "adapted" for SM Entertainment's official merchandise. This also makes fans disappointed.
"It's good but the design is very similar. Hopefully SM Entertainment will immediately release a statement," commented the fan. "Viewed from anywhere, the design is very similar," added another fan. "I'm really disappointed with SM," said another fan. "Please give a statement because this is very similar," concluded another.
Despite the complaints of fans popping up, SM Entertainment has yet to respond to accusations of plagiarism. The agency is expected to release a statement soon because it concerns the image of the artists too.
Meanwhile, SM Town Live 2019 in Tokyo will be held for two consecutive days, on the 3rd and 5th of August. The artists that appear are Kangta, Super Junior, BoA, TVXQ, SNSD, SHINee Taemin, f (x), EXO, Red Velvet and NCT.
