Choi Deceives People To Be Sure That They Have The Right To Organize Meetings Of Fans And Concerts.

A 38-year-old man was sentenced to prison for fraud using the name Bangtan Boys (BTS). He deceived people into believing that he had the right to organize fan meetings and group concerts held by RM (Rap Monster) and friends.

Thursday (11/4), Seoul High Court (chief judge Cha Moon Ho) sentenced Choi to the same sentence he received in his first trial of six years in prison. He was charged with violating the Additional Penal Code on Special Economic Crimes (fraud). The High Court reviewed the case because Choi had appealed the decision handed down in October 2018 from a lower court.

"When we look at the overall situation and the testimony of the victim, it is clear that Mr Choi deceived the victims. The damage caused by Choi to the victims was very severe," said the court jury.

"Choi has also damaged our nation's reputation at the expense of people abroad. Not only has he defamed the BTS, but there are many victims who have not been able to recover from what he has done and hope for severe punishment. We see no reason to reduce the sentence in this case, "they continued.

In its first trial, the court ruled, "Choi deceived some Japanese people into believing that he had the right to sell exclusive BTS photo rights and promised to give them exclusive rights to make and sell official BTS products in Japan."

Choi is the head of the company that makes collaborative products with celebrities. In January 2017, he was accused of cheating people into believing that he could arrange fan meetings and various shows with BTS and deceive people to 624 million Won (around Rp. 7.75 billion).

Whereas in Japan, about exclusive BTS photo rights, Choi deceived people to a total of 1.1 billion Won (around Rp. 13.6 billion). He also cheated people up to 1.3 billion Won with similar crimes (around Rp. 16 billion).

But some netizens judge the sentence for Choi unfair and compare it to the case of Seungri cs. They say Seungri and his friends clearly damage the reputation of the nation but are still free to roam.

"Isn't Seungri, Lee Mun Ho and Yoo In Suk also damaging our nation's reputation?" netter comment. "If we talk about the country's reputation, Seungri is clearly the main suspect as one of the biggest K-Pop group members. His crime also deserves a life sentence," another netter added. "Then why is Seungri still not in jail?" concluded another.
