"Because this program has been running for eight years, the staff did experience some difficulties during the meeting. There is nothing we have not done," said producer Gong Hee Chul. "The problem with the old program is that there is nothing new because it has been going on for so long."
"When a new idea arises, the producer must look back and make sure (the idea) has been done or not," he explained. "Including ideas that have never been done for a reason."
Apart from being an idea, the production crew also often experiences various other difficulties. This obstacle comes from the lack of production costs and inadequate filming locations.
"There are moments when we give up at the planning stage because of the lack of production costs," he said. "And what we can't do is because the shooting location is different from what we expected."
The production team also often works for a long period of time in order to maximize the guest character present. Because one episode won't be enough to show their character.
"Many stars are born through 'Running Man', but the episode is not enough to show their interesting character," he said. "For example, with a few episodes we took them to international projects. We might not be able to highlight the characters of Lee Sang Yeob and Lee Da Hee if they only appeared in one episode."
Producer Gong Hee Chul also revealed that Yoo Jae Seok helped him a lot. Because he often offers input based on his extensive experience.
In 2019, "Running Man" will be nine years old. Even though he managed to survive in the midst of difficulties for quite a long time, producer Gong Hee Chul denied that he had done an extraordinary job.
