SM Ent Plans To Promote SNSD And NCT Second, All Members Are Non-Korean - This Is Done To Overcome Market Demand For K-Pop Music That Has Been Worldwide.
SM Entertainment seems to be increasingly aggressively expanding its business. After being known to work with Transmedia Corp, the agency that houses SHINee and Red Velvet is planning to debut a new group.
On March 20, the New Daily news outlets released an interview with Lee Sung Soo, a production manager at SM Entertainment. In the interview that took place at Texas 'SXSW 2019', Manager Lee talked about agency plans to tackle the global market.
In the interview Manager Lee revealed that the agency was planning to debut the second generation group of Girls' Generation and NCT successors. Interestingly, all members of the group are planned to come from outside Korea.
"We are planning the 2nd Girls' Generation with all of its American members," said the SM representative. "Besides that we will also make NCT the 2nd with all Europeans. Localization is the global strategy of SM Entertainment."
According to Manager Lee this is solely done to meet market demand for cultural diversity in K-Pop. The SM representative claimed that K-Pop influence was now expanding to parts of Europe, America and Asia.
"Instead of trying to adjust to the interests of the general public, SM Entertainment has created content for fans who love SM's own color, culture and music," Manager Lee said. "We have confirmed that fandom is not only large domestically but also in North America and Europe. This is our goal to develop it more globally."
"With SM culture, techniques and producing skills, we have presented a group of fully localized for the first time," he added. "We also plan to conduct local management in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and others in the format of cooperation with local companies there."
Earlier this year, SM Entertainment began to realize this by debuting a new group called WayV. WayV itself is a group consisting only of Chinese and Thai members. The members will focus on promoting in China.
